John Kerry came to Dover High on Monday morning.

The Dover High School Band had been approached to play at the event.
John Kerry is no stranger to the DPMC as you can see in this picture at Friendly's in Dover with Donna, Emily, Earl and Elaine with some of the band after a football game last season. Although we don't officially endorse a presidential candidate as a group we urge everyone to VOTE.
Ask yourself, are you better off now than you were four years ago?
Is your COUNTRY better off now than it was four years ago??
Get out and VOTE !!!!

You can see pics and what John Kerry has to say at Dover High on Monday morning here.

George, we'd love to give you equal time on the blog, but we must not eat at the same restaurants you do.

Dover gets one of the highest awards of the show with 3 stars across the board and a Silver medal!!

A night to Remember!!! Although not warm, we had come expecting worse. The Maine finals were fun. The food was great and more than reasonably priced. The bands were all great and a pleasure to watch. The England Kids got a chance to hear a real MAINE announcer!!The DPMC pit crew got to experience the Terry Wood band final victory dance! (yes Terry, I have a .avi movie....) And for the 3 hour ride home we got to listen to The Red Sox win the first game of the world series!

Who could ask for a more exciting Saturday night??? And how was your night?

Gradulations to our Silver Medal Winners!

GREAT ARTICLE IN THE DOVER COMMUNITY NEWS ABOUT OUR BAND SHOW.
If any of you get a chance, PLEASE be sure to contact Kristin Sawyer, reporter, and thank her.
Notice the plug she put in for our "donation request" for a trailer for transportation.
Incredible...finally some recognition for the outstanding job you all do.
THANK YOU!

Band Show - We Need Battery Powered Lanterns!!!

HEAR YE, HEAR YE,
We are in need of battery powered laterns/lamps for use at the band show. They will be used in a secure, enclosed trailer. Please e-mail me if you have one (with well charged and/or new battery) to loan for the event. I will be at DHS tonight and Thursday night, at the beginning of band practice, if you want to drop one off (labeled with your name).
THANK YOU!

Departure Time This Sunday

Dear DPMC parents:  Elaine is correct about our departure time on Sunday.  We need to allow at least 2 1/2 hours for what would be a 2 hour trip on anything but a Laidlaw bus.  I hate the thought of preventing anyone from attending church Sunday morning, which is why I usually avoid Sunday performances, but this one was the best use of time in our schedule.  We will need to have people here at 9:30am, and plan to leave by 10, which should get us to Swansea right after 12 with plenty of time for bathroom searches and dressing before warm-ups.  The good news is that we should be back by 7:30-8pm.  And Monday is a day off!  Please let me know if you have any concerns.  Michele B.

Happy Pant Hemming by Kara !!!

Hi Elaine,
I will be there for the meeting. If kids want to bring in their uniforms, I will be happy to hem pants during the meeting. (I will bring pins, needle and thread with me).

Kara Kane

Mud Alert !!!

Hi Everyone!!

I just took a look at Sam's uniform and it was muddy!! Off to Cleary Cleaners for us.

Just wanted to pass on my experience, didn't want anyone to be surprised next weekend when they put on their uniform.

Elaine, just checked my calendar, Zachary has a "Open House", so regretfully I will not be there.

So Nancy - Since I won't be there maybe you can bring up the chaperoning concerns if you get a chance.

Thank you to all the parents that shared their Childs freshman experience with me. Sam is an excited band member now, although he can't play because of his wrist. He loves the social and marching experience. Still an overwhelming amount of homework, but he's adjusting.

Elaine are those angel wings you're sprouting??? You must be exhausted. Thanks for all that you do.

-Sherri Rheaume

Next DPMC Meeting

Just a quick reminder....

Our next DPMC meeting is this coming Tuesday, Oct 5th, 6pm in the music room.  If you are planning on attending, please let me know...I am mailing out volunteer band show postcards on Monday and would like to save postage if we can.

I do believe a parent has offered to bring refreshments as well ...so come "snack" with us while we discuss the upcoming events and exciting things happening.

Yes, it did pour last night...thankfully right AFTER we got off the field, but not in time for us to get on the bus.  Pit truck left a bit earlier...THANK YOU, once again,  to all of the parents who helped unload the truck AND bring ALL the instruments (except the three LARGE percussion instruments) up ALL those stairs.  By the end of this season, we will have THE most "FIT PIT CREW" ever (students...don't get use to this...you all now owe us big time!)

UNIFORMS - Hangers for uniforms did not arrive on Friday as promised...should be here for next week's shows.  However, some students still do not have garment bag.  ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A GARMENT BAG or something to protect these uniforms (See Emily Wood if your child needs one).  These uniforms are precious commodities (and expensive if you have to replace).  We try to keep them as clean as possible (did have a few fall in the bottom of the truck last night...not a pretty sight).  Also, parents, if your child's pants are too long, they MUST be hemmed (please ask your child if anyone has mentioned this to them).  Dragging along the ground, walkways, roads during competitions and parades ruins the bottom and makes us "look" less than proud.    Pant length should be touching the laces of the shoes and not dragging on the ground.  Student must take pride in caring for these uniforms.  PLEASE help us keep these uniforms in good shape.  While we would "love" to parent them all....you know how difficult it is to parent one or two..(plus I'm getting too old to take on more than I know I can handle mentally).

Hope to see you all at the meeting.  Students...here's your chance to pay back a little of what you owe - remind your parents to come to the meeting.  I will be glad to credit your "account" of what you "owe" us if your parent attends.

Have a great day off....no football game next week...however, not one, but TWO competitions next week.  Look for change in departure time on Sunday.  Since Swansea Ma seems to be about 2 1/2 hrs (little traffic) and we are on deck at 1:45, on the field 1:50pm, arriving at 11am is not going to make it.  Ms. B. will also confirm departure time for Saturday's Salem Show.

Nice job Saturday morning - the City of Dover was well represented by you all.

Your friendly, organized and exhausted
secretary, pit crew coordinator, band show co-chair, and surrogate "mom",
